Question #3. What Ft. Dodge landmark, no longer there, do you miss the most?

  • Zandra Roderick Brenneman: I liked the 3rd Street bridge.,use to walk out on the rail as far as I could.
  • Barb Wagner :The Coffee Pot House
  • Mary Lyman Ryan: Constantine's
  • Dave Bischoff: I think I miss the old "drag".  It seems they have replaced it with something called "Central Avenue". There are no traffic lights, motorheads or ****heads like the old street had.  I also miss the lower dam on the Des Moines River. They removed FD' dams in 2019. Gary Baker and I used to fish for Northern Pike down there using Lazy Ike lures from Kautzky's.

Question #2. What is ONE THING that you (had to) learn(ed) in High School that, so far, you NEVER had to use?
  • Mike Mayefske I can think of two. Latin and Earth Science.
  • Dave Bischoff:  Diagraming sentences
  • Kevin Ryan: Conjugating Latin verbs
  • Mary Lyman Ryan: Avogadro's Number (6.023 x 10 to the 23rd power) that Sister Generosa drummed into our heads in her Chemistry Class.  I'm not 100% sure I even understood it back then.  But I NEVER USED IT AGAIN!

(I get a low-voltage buzz when I catch foot-tapping or head-bobbing youth around me that the song playing was popular at my high school dances.  They know they're busted. Good idea, and question)
  • Patsy Campbell Dunn Happy Together by the Turtles (1967)
  • Steve Booth (Boother): Instant Karma  JohnLennon-Plastic Ono Band (1970) Who'll Stop the Rain Credence (CCR) 1970
  • Pat Lomax Ward: "Cherish" is one of my favorites, takes me back to school dances.
  • Mary Lyman Ryan: Moon Shadow by Cat Stevens
  • Terry DobmeierThere are many, but a couple are Bridge Over Troubled Water and Cracklin’ Rose. And I can’t hear a Three Dog Night song without thinking of the three words Z.R. told me to add to each title.

  • Laura Lugate:Simon and Garfunkel – Feeling Groovy and Sounds of Silence; James Taylor – You’ve Got a Friend; Sonny and Cher – I got you, Babe
  • Jerry Potratz: Imagine by John Lennon
