ANNOUNCEMENT
A note From Jerry- "This is my class!”
Dear Classmates,
I was hoping that we would make it through 2022 without losing any more classmates, but, sadly, Dave Kelley’s death has put an end to that hope. My thoughts and prayers go out to Dave and his family.
If you attended Corpus Christi, you might remember that Dave hit a huge growth spurt far earlier than the rest of us. For a few years there, Dave was a grade-school-giant. I remember one day a playground monitor scolded Dave for some fun brawling and told him to “Go play with your own class”. Dave, in sheepish disbelief, just responded with “This is my class!” By the time we had moved on to St. Edmond, Dave’s height was somewhere in the middle of our class. He no longer stood out by size…. instead, he stood out by his infectious smile and always-friendly personality. Dave was a truly-genuine nice guy.
“This is my class!” is what Dave said that day on the playground and now we have lost him as a classmate. We have not lost his memory, however. Not a chance of that. “This is my class” is the way I think about each of you. There is something especially bonding about being together in our life-important formative years. I am, like most of you, 69, … next year, the good Lord willing, we will be blessed with the big 7-0! There are a lot of people that have entered and exited my life in each of my decades on this earth… most with barely a memory that we were ever together. My first two decades on earth, however, those people… you people… will always be special. Whether I knew you well, or not too well, you are a much bigger part of me and who I am than many of those people that I have run into in the decades between St. Edmond and today.
“This is my class!” and I hope we can gather together in the largest number possible during our reunion weekend this Fall. We can celebrate our memories, talk about what we have enjoyed throughout life, and discuss what we want to do next. Let’s make that extra effort and come together class!
I really hope to see you this Fall!
Jerry
