A New Years Note From Jerry

Hello Classmates!

There is always something special about welcoming in a new year.  Feelings typically include some nostalgia associated with the year just passed… moments that you would love to repeat and times that you painfully endured… and a sense of optimism and wonder about the new year ahead.  What will the new year bring?  In what activities will we challenge ourselves?  In what ways will we be challenged?  Nothing ventured… nothing gained.  What do we want to venture into?
At our age, we cannot afford to “sit out a year” ---there are a limited number that remain.  What are those things that we would really like to do in 2022?  Is there anything wrong with just taking the time to smell the roses… enjoying those simple things that surround us every day?  In my mind, there needs to be some balance between enjoying our blessings and pursuing new adventures.  A new year allows us to survey our personal landscape and assess what might be added, deleted, or improved.
I don’t remember anything particular about New Year’s eve 1971.  Probably just hanging out with the buddies and watching Dick Clark and the ball-drop at Time Square.  I do know at the time that the year 2000, let alone 2022, was too far away to think about.  Although I had “my whole life ahead of me”, I wasn’t thinking “too far ahead”.  If anyone has specific memories of high school New Year’s celebrations, I would love to hear them.  My memories could use a jump-start.
I think that 2022 is going to be a great year. We will have our “50 + 1” reunion over the September 16-18 weekend and I am really looking forward to seeing all of you!  The reunion committee has a few surprises planned for you (including a new venue for Friday Evening). Don’t miss this opportunity to gather as a group of old friends once again! This promises to be one of the highlights of 2022 and years going forward.
I want to wish all of you, and your loved ones, a very healthy and happy new year.  See you in ‘22!
